A Sawyer County man on trial for the death of his ex-girlfriend's baby pleaded guilty Wednesday to a reduced charge.
Lonny Quagon of Stone Lake had faced up to 60 years in prison on charges of first-degree reckless homicide and child abuse.
The 32-year-old Quagon contended the death was accidental. But after prosecutors played an audio tape of his interrogation by police, he agreed to the plea deal.
He pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless homicide. Lawyers for both sides agreed to recommend a sentence of eight years in prison and 10 years supervised probation.
The baby boy died at home May 7, 2007. An autopsy found he suffered two skull fractures, shoulder and elbow dislocations and a broken back.
Sentencing is scheduled Nov. 21.
