A semi trailer and a small car crashed tonight leaving people trapped inside the car.

The Eau Claire County Sheriffs Department says it appears the car was turning onto Highway 53 South from County Road I, at 6:53 p.m. Saturday evening when it failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection.

Deputies say that's when the semi, headed southbound on Highway 53 crashed into the car.

There were three passengers in the car and one in the semi.

20-year-old Ashley A. Albrecht of Eau Claire was driving the car. Deputies say she was airlifted to Luther Hospital.

Passengers in the car include 19-year-old Tyler J. Schug of Cadott and 23-year-old Sara Q Kosciolek of Madison. They were taking to Sacred Heart Hospital.

Deputies say the truck driver is 52-year-old Anthony A Lenczowski of Fertile, MN. He was carrying a load of potatoes and was not hurt in the crash.

I just wanted to let the person that posted the comment on the 14th that the care was white it wasn't black. No matter what the color of the vehicle this is my cousin and we all have her in our prayers and nobody should ever have to learn a lesson like this.

I went out to that intersection and looked at it carefully. The stop sign is very far behind the intersection. The white line(to stop behind) is about 15 feet forward after the stop sign.If you stop at the stop sign you are blind to the traffic coming from the north. The hill and the tall grass makes it impossible to see any traffic coming from Eau Claire direction, not to mention the signs on that hill and mound. From the white line you can not see anything either. If you look to the south over your shoulder and see that no traffic is coming and start to creep out and dont look back imediately,it`s to late. It`s surprising that this hasn`t happened here before.Someone should redesign this intersection.Remove the blind sided hill.Maybe next time it might take a life. This time that was very close to happening.I know that anybody who has ever used that intersection knows exactly what I`m taking about.Go check it out,Its a terrible and UNSAFE intersection!

I drive pass that intersection several times a week.It is very hard coming off I without pulling out a little to see both ways because of the curve, however over the years I cant tell you how many times cars have only slowed down without coming to a complete stop and pulled out even though traffic on 53 was visable.I have almost hit the same black car with a young girl in it many times because of that kind of "stop".I sincerely hope this accident was not the same driver. It would be a hard lesson to learn.
