A Wisconsin stream will get a major upgrade soon.
The DNR and Trout Unlimited are teaming up to use federal grant money to improve ten streams in the state including one in Vernon County.
Seven chapters of Trout Unlimited will get $800,000 to work on streams.
The group says Wisconsin is the second most popular fishing destination in the country.
And here in western Wisconsin, it plans to put $180,000 to work. And the DNR says it’ll make a big difference.
Bob Hujik, DNR Fisheries Supervisor, says "We go into degraded trout streams and make them better. Give them homes and stabilize the banks so we get identification of the sedimentation that occurs."
Trout Unlimited says it will work on the Coon Creek State Fishery in Vernon County.
The group says that will not only help the trout it will help turtles, snakes, birds and frogs as well.
