Because of dry conditions, the City of Altoona put a partial watering ban in place.
Watering lawns or washing cars is only allowed on even numbered days for people with even numbered addresses. Odd numbered days are okay to water at odd numbered addresses.
The ban will be in effect until adequate rain fall happens. It's estimated the measures will reduce consumption by 150,000 gallons per day.
The Director of Public Safety issued a general burning ban, meaning no burning permits will be issued for burning grass, leaves, brush or other vegetation. Normally a campfire or backyard recreation fire wouldn't require a permit, but under a ban, you will need to get a permit. You can do that at the Altoona Fire Department at 1904 Spooner Ave., Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If people don't comply with the ban, they could be fined $500 for the first offense. Call the city of Altoona at (715) 839-6092 if you have questions.
