The new highway 53 bypass may not be open yet, but that didn't keep hundreds of bicyclists of the new portion in Altoona.
Altoona Outdoors, with the help from many local sponsors held their break free on highway 53 fundraiser on Saturday.
Races, bike rodeos and other family oriented activities were held to help raise awareness for new bike trails in the Altoona and Eau Claire area.
The trail would complete a loop around Altoona and the east side of Eau Claire.
"I have three kids and we have to put our bikes in the car and drive to the Eau Claire traisl. I just want to bike. It's hard to get physical activity when you aren't near the recreational facilities," Altoona Outdoors President Dave Elvig said.
The trail will also provide better biking access to Altoona School.
Money raised from today's event helps to build the trails.
