Bus Ridership Up as Gas Prices Soar
Bus fares may rise as well to cover diesel cost increases

The chairperson of the state Urban and Rural Transit Association says a boost in bus ridership is directly related to soaring gas prices.

Still, transit system operators say other factors play a role in the increase. A woman who works at UW-Eau Claire rides the bus and figures she saves about $40 to $50 a month. However, experts say bus rates may go up because of rising diesel fuel prices.
