Wisconsinites Rate President's Performance: Nearly Half Say "Poor"

Nearly half of the respondents in a new state poll believe George Bush is doing a poor job as president.

The University of Wisconsin Survey Center found that five percent of those polled rated the president's overall job performance as excellent, 22% as good, 27% as fair and 45% as poor.

But the opinions were drawn down party lines, with four percent of Democrats giving him an excellent or good rating and more than two-thirds of Republicans doing the same.

Also, the poll found that younger respondents gave him more negative ratings and older ones gave him more positive ratings.

Pollsters talked to 508 randomly chosen Wisconsin residents by phone between June 23rd and July second.

The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.
