A Stevens Point police officer shot and killed a man after an altercation Saturday. However, the victim's name was not released, only that the individual was not from the Stevens Point area.
Stevens Point Police Chief Jeff Morris said officers were responding to the report of a stolen vehicle when the suspect fled on foot.
Morris said another officer spotted the suspect near a high school and used his Taser twice along with chemical spray in an attempt to subdue the suspect.
Morris said the suspect and officer scuffled before the officer fired twice.
There was no identification found on the suspect and Morris would not say whether the man had a weapon when the officer fired.
The 14-year veteran of the force was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Portage County Sheriff's Department and the state Department of Criminal Investigation.
