Trane Layoffs

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- Trane cited the economic slowdown in cutting 20 salaried jobs at La Crosse and also announced that another 75 local jobs are expected to be cut within three years because of work being shifted to China.

The producer of air conditioning and heating equipment said it has decided that centrifugal compressors that go into chillers made at its Taicang, China, plant will be made in China instead of La Crosse.

But the company said compressors will still be made in La Crosse for the EarthWise CenTraVac Chiller. That chiller is Trane's main product in La Crosse, where the company makes air conditioning, ventilation, heating and building management equipment for large commercial buildings.

With Wednesday's 20 job cuts, Trane has about 2,245 employees working in La Crosse and another 57 hourly production workers on layoff.
