A measure of unemployment hit a 7 year high.
The Labor Department says the number of people filing new claims for unemployment benefits. Last week was the highest total since just after September 11th 2001. The seasonally adjusted total is 516,000 people. The number of people continuing to seek unemployment benefits also went up. It’s at 3.9 million. That’s the highest total since January of 1983.
