Eau Claire police say they were investigating a theft case Monday night, when a man struggled with an officer and took off in a car.
Officers chased the car for a short time on the north side before the driver lost control and hit a big tree and knocked it over. It happened at an intersection off Hastings Way near Birch Street. Officers say he was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators tell us he was the only person in the car. Formal charges are pending.
