A man who tried to get away from police, hit a tree and went to the hospital could face several charges.
Officers say they arrested 29-year-old Theodore McHie of Eau Claire for recklessly endangering safety, knowingly fleeing, and resisting. Investigators say he's wanted for child support in Chippewa County and will appear in court after he's cleared by the hospital.
Eau Claire police say they were investigating a theft case, when a man struggled with an officer and took off in a car.
Officers chased the car for a short time on the north side before the driver lost control and hit a tree and knocked it over.
It was at an intersection off Hastings Way near Birch Street.
