Sunday night's snow fall is to blame for a two-vehicle accident on Highway 93.

Crews responded to the accident on Highway 93 just north of Eleva in Eau Claire County. It happened just before 6:30 Sunday night.

Eau Claire County Sheriff deputies say 47-year-old Jeanne Malay of La Crosse lost control of her southbound SUV and trailer. That's when she slid into the path of an oncoming van driven by 35-year-old Jesse Myers of Chippewa Falls.

Malay wasn't injured; Myers and three children, a 9-year-old, 7-year-old and 17-month-old, were taken to a local hospital. They were all treated and released.

I see plenty of little front wheel drive four cylinder cars in the ditch when it is slippery. Is that because the roads are slippery or people in these little cars think they are one with the environment and are over confident the ice won't make them slide off the road?

My girlfriend and I were on our way to a movie and came across this incident moments after it happened. When I got to the vehicle where Jesse was, I had very little hope. Soon i realized he was concious and very much alert as to what happened. I remained there during the whole thing trying to help as much as I could. While he was pinned in the vehicle we talked and joked around about deer hunting, The Green Bay Packers, The Kids, Etc... What ever it took to keep him calm and keep his mind off the fact that he was trapped and they had to use the "Jaws Of Life" to remove him from the vehicle. This incident should have never happened. I refuse to call it an accident because it wasn't. It was a very avoidable act of STUPIDITY!! Thank you to Jeanne Malay for etching the fear and pain I saw in Jesse's face that night forever in my mind. This would have never happened if you had used a little common sense and SLOWED DOWN!!!! To Jesse; I'm glad everyone is ok and congrats on the deer!

I was at the Packer game on Sunday, and I drove back to EC in some pretty bad conditions from Green Bay, all the way to Abbotsford - so basically 75% of the drive back. Not once did I think of going above 45 mph, even when other people were passing me, and seeing tracks from cars that had already slid off the road. When I'm driving, I'm not worried about MYSELF making an error, it's some other moron driving "too fast for conditions" that makes a little slip-up and all of a sudden they're out of control and sliding all over the place. Yeah, it took us about 4 1/2 hours to get back, a lot longer than the 2:45 it normally takes...but you know what, I WOULD RATHER GET THERE LATE, THAN END UP OFF THE ROAD, and that is what some people dont understand!!

If the icy conditions are to blame for this crash, then we better ban all driving on icy conditions. Isn't the person behind the wheel more to blame? I have never had any problem driving on ice. It has never sneaked up on me even in that "black ice" phenomenon. SLOW DOWN!

I agree with ICEMan and D, people drive way too fast for conditions. 4WD SUVs are great because they give you more traction when accelerating and around corners. But EVERY vehicle has four wheel brakes and unfortunately 4WD SUVs are then on the same keel as the rest of us. Just because that 4WD gets you going faster, it certainly is not going to stop you faster or make the roads less slippery. Use common sense and SLOW DOWN!

When are we going to stop blaming the weather because we can't drive. Place the blame where it belongs, IE. To fast for conditions, faulty vehicle, inattentive driving. We get this weather every single year and we need to learn to drive in it or stay off the roads.

I agree 100% with ICEMan...I drove from E.C. to Arcadia last night at the very same time as this accident...The # of drivers going too fast for conditions was mind boggling...We saw 2 accidents besides the one mentioned here.......I learned how to drive in Snow/Ice when I was 16 and have yet to cause an accident(I'm now in my 40's)...A little comman sence goes a long way...Slow Down !!! Especially if you're towing something...DUH ! And for the Love of God, use you DIRECTIONALS people don't read minds.......It amazes me how many people are in a hurry to get somewhere, but can't do the math...Try it once...It's approx. 45-50 MI between EC & Arcadia...We routinly have people pass us at high speeds only to meet up with them again at a stop light/sign...you are NOT going to save any time worth mentioning in a trip that distance by going 10-15 over...Do the MATH & SLOW DOWN !!! Take Care...and Drive Safe !!!

SLIPPERY ROADS DON'T CAUSE ANY CRASHES, EVER!!! Stop putting up the "Slippery roads cause crashes" graphic on your newscasts and stop having your anchors say that statement on the air. It is inaccurate ON ITS FACE!! Instead, have them say what is accurate..."Drivers failing to negotiate slippery conditions caused crashes..." or "Drivers failing to go slowly and carefully enough for the slippery conditions caused crashes..." I have had enough of media reports letting the boneheaded drivers off the hook for not keeping their vehicles under control...what, are you afraid they'll sue you for saying they didn't maintain control of their vehicle? THE FACT THEY HAD A CRASH MAKES IT SO!!! Thanks for making this change in your broadcasts...now, if we could just get you to stop saying "township" when you should be saying "town." We'll fight that one another day...
