If you've seen an ad to be a "secret shopper" to make some extra cash, it may be a scam.
The Barron County Sheriff's Department says it has seen more secret shopper scams and says people are losing money.
Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says people get offers from research agencies for these part-time jobs, but there's a catch. The secret shopper agency may send a check, that the sheiff says is counterfeit.
He says the company asks you to deposit the check it sent you and you are supposed to wire money. By the time the bank figures out you got a bogus check, the company already has your cash.
The sheriff says don't cash any checks or wire any money to these scammers and contact police if you get one of these offers.
