A house was destroyed and one man was hospitalized when a large fire broke out in the attic area.
Fire Chief John Dougherty says the Wilton Fire Department got a call for a house fire about 9 a.m. Friday. The Norwalk Fire Department along with Wilton Fire and EMS responded to the fire.
Four people including two babies where in the house when the fire broke out. Dougherty says the fire started in the attic and spread to the rest of the house. He says with weather conditions the fire department couldn't access its water supply right away because it was frozen.
"It could be worse we could have lost some lives on this. It’s just a house. The house I’d say is probably a total loss at this time," Dougherty says.
One person was taken to a Sparta hospital for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
