Santa's Reindeer Make Magical Journey Around Wisconsin
It's the time of year for Santa and all of his helpers to spread Christmas cheer at malls and stores all over the area. But a ranch owner from Woodville is making the holidays extra special with appearances from some of Saint Nick's furry friends. As the old song goes, you know Dasher and Dancer, but who knew they'd be hanging out at a convenience store in Hudson, or a parade in Menomonie?
“We don't want to bring Rudolph because he has to rest up for the big night," explains their handler, Diana Rickard.
Rickard owns the Fantasy Corral in Woodville and has been travelling around Wisconsin and Minnesota, showing Santa's reindeer, since 1993.
"We start the second week of November and we go up through, our last reindeer event will be next Sunday with the Minnesota V ikings,” she describes proudly.
She says most people are shocked to see that reindeer actually exist.
"People think they're a myth,” says Rickard.
Rickard says the appearances aren't just fun, they're educational as well.
"If you listen to the Santa stories, the one that says ‘click-click-click, up on the housetop,’ the reindeer actually do make a clicking sound and that is all natural to them,” says Rickard.
The reindeer look pretty small, so they must have some magical powers to pull that sleigh. We asked for their secrets, but they had no comment.
Though the reindeer aren't spilling what makes them fly, they certainly bring their magic to every child, young and old.
"A lot of it is the enjoyment of seeing the kid's faces. When they see the reindeer, they know that these are Santa's reindeer and they will be bringing their presents on Christmas Day," says Rickard.
The Fantasy Corral houses 11 reindeer—all of Santa's legendary team, and some reserves.
