When the 2007-2008 winter season was in the books, many places in Wisconsin received up to 240% of their normal winter snowfall.

14 observation sites here in western Wisconsin set all-time winter snowfall records. Madison had 101.4 inches of snow, and the snowiest place in Wisconsin was Gurney, located in Iron County, which got 147 inches of snow.

When summer rolled around, we had to contend with rain and in some cases, lots of rain.

The flooding of June 2008 was the costliest natural disaster in Wisconsin history. Flood waters forced 150 people to evacuate their homes in Gays Mills, and more than 100 roads in Vernon County were closed. In all, more than 40,000 homes and 5,000 businesses were damaged, and 31 counties across the state were declared federal disaster areas. An estimated grand total of $765 million dollars in damages, with more than $241 million of that being to homes,

But summer of 2008 will also be remembered as a cooler one than in some years, with highs reaching the nineties only twice in Eau Claire, and zero heat advisories being issued for the entire state.

This winter season is shaping up to be impressive as well. Numerous places across the state have set all-time December snowfall records.

La Crosse set a record, with 32.7 inches of snow. Madison is incredibly about 5 inches above last winter's all-time record pace, with 40.4 inches. And with 25 inches, Eau Claire came in with its fourth snowiest December of all time.
