Winona State University Goes Smoke-Free
Winona State University is banning smoking completely on its campus starting January 12.

Smoking will soon be completely banned on the campus of Winona State University.
Starting January 12, no smoking or tobacco use of any kind will be allowed anywhere within campus boundaries -- both indoors our outdoors. It's a toughening of the school's 2002 policy that kept smokers at least 25 feet from Winona State buildings.
Campus spokeswoman Diane Palm says the new policy is being implemented to promote a healthier work environment for students.
By restricting all tobacco use, the school is also banning the use of chewing tobacco on campus.
Winona State will be the second smoke-free state campus to go smoke-free. Minnesota State University in Moorhead instituted a tobacco-free campus last January.
