A railroad company is cutting back its workforce in the Coulee Region.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway has laid off about 30 members of its train crews in La Crosse over the past several weeks. The company says there's less traffic on the rails because of the poor economy. General Director of Public Affairs Steve Forsberg says the workers could be rehired if business picks up again, but it all depends on the economy.
In addition, Union Pacific Railroad is putting hundreds of people on work furlough company-wide.
