Eau Claire Police say the scammers are posing as Associated Bank and say there's been unusual activity on your account. They warn the scammers are trying to lure financial information out of you to rip you off, so you should not answer the scam.

Here's advice on what to do from the police:

The Eau Claire police Department has received numerous calls regarding a text message that was apparently sent out to cell phone numbers in the Eau Claire area.

The message alleges that there was “unusual activity” in the recipient’s Associated Bank Account and requests the recipient to call a phone number. Banks do not use this method to notify customers about unusual activity.

The message is a hoax attempt to obtain bank account information from the recipient.

The police department is recommending the following:
1. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER ON THE TEXT MESSAGE!
2. Delete the text message.
3. If you have already called the number and provided an account number call Associated Bank at 1-800-236-8866 to report that our account information has been compromised.
4. The scam is currently under investigation. You do not need to report the receipt of this text message to the police unless your account actually has unauthorized activity.
