Eau Claire’s public school leaders say they'll be watching the weather closely to see if either the air temperature or wind chill falls to -30.
That's the figure district leaders look for when they're deciding whether to close school because of the cold.
The decision typically comes around 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.
The district says 30 below doesn’t always mean schools will close.
The last time Eau Claire schools closed because of the cold was on January 30 of 2008.
The air temperature was 15 degrees zero.
The wind chill was about 35 below.
