Owners say their horse has died after being rescued from a well last month.

Sandy O'Brien says she and her husband were all set to bring Dolly home a couple of weeks ago when Dolly had a second allergic reaction to medicine to help her neck.

O'Brien says Dolly had been up and eating and doing well. But, they could not get the swelling to come back down and she passed away.

The O'Briens plan to build a stone wishing well above her burial site.

A horse is back on solid ground Thursday night after crews rescue it from a well.

Sandy and Cory O'Brien say they spent all day Wednesday following tracks and looking for Cory's horse, Dolly. Sandy said around 5 p.m. a neighbor found Dolly inside a the well. The sheriff says the ground around the well collapsed. Sandy says Dolly probably spent 24 hours in the well.

Deputies called in excavators with a backhoe to help dig a trench to get Dolly out. The Barron County Humane Association says Wirth Bros Excavating out of Ridgeland and crews from the Prairie Farm Fire Department and the Barron County Sheriff's Department all came together and did an amazing job. The O'Briens say between all the rescuers and neighboring farmers and friends that showed up there were 20 to 30 people helping out. It took around six hours to rescue Dolly.

Sandy O'Brien says Dolly fell buttocks-first into the hole that had an opening about the size of a barrel. She says Dolly is resting, eating and in good spirits, but so far won't stand up. The family hopes Dolly is just sore from the very traumatic event.
