The mother of a 13-year-old driver killed in a car crash near De Soto won't face criminal charges.
Vernon County District Attorney Tim Gaskell said Friday that Marge Brutscher knew the boy drove her car, and she used poor judgment, but criminal charges aren't appropriate. He said she couldn't have a worse punishment than living with his loss.
Gatlin Collins died Jan. 31 when the car left the road and hit a tree. He was an eighth-grader at De Soto Middle School.
His grandmother June Brutscher has said Gatlin learned to drive on farms, as many rural youngsters do.
