The Sheriff's Department says once the investigation has been completed, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and possible criminal charges.
TOWN OF ALMA, Wis. (RELEASE FROM SHERIFF'S DEPT)-- The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a gunshot incident involving two juveniles.
On Friday, August 30, 2013 at about 9:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Black River Falls Hospital regarding a gunshot injury involving a 4 year old female subject. The injury was non-life threatening. Deputies responded to the incident to investigate what happened.
Initial information indicates that the gunshot incident happened at a residence located in the Town of Alma, Jackson County, Wisconsin. (The actual address will not be released at this time due to the fact that this is a confidential juvenile matter.)
The incident involved a 6 year old boy and his 4 year old sister. The 6 year old boy found a loaded shotgun. The 6 year old boy pointed the shotgun at his sister and the shotgun discharged. At this time it has not been determined how the shotgun discharged. There was one shot discharged from the shotgun. The shot struck the 4 year old girl on the right side of the head causing non-life threatening injuries.
At the time the two children did not have direct supervision, but their father was at the residence when the incident occurred. The father transported his daughter to the Black River Memorial Hospital for treatment. The 4 year old girl was treated and then transported to another hospital in La Crosse for additional treatment. The Sheriff’s Office does not have a status update on the medical treatment or injuries.
The incident remains under investigation. The Jackson County Department of Health and Human Services was contacted and is assisting with the family and the investigation. Names and other information will not be released at this time because this is a confidential juvenile matter.
