It's the last original wood-frame courthouse of its kind in the state.

Great story - my grandfather (Clayton Hewitt) was the sheriff in durand (during the 1920's - 30's)for many years, my grandmother (Winifred Hewitt) was the county clerk. they lived in the house connected to the jail where my mother (Vonita Hewitt) was born - as a child I heard many stories of their life in the courthouse and the neighboring jail and home. I also have pictures of my grandmother at work in the courthouse. Thanks for keeping such an historical icon in the public eye
