Another state's Department of Revenue is warning people there's a Craigslist scam surfacing in Wisconsin. The Massachusetts Department of Revenue says scammers are using phony checks that look like the state agency's checks to scam Craigslist sellers out of cash.
Investigators say the buyer will send out a phony check for more than the auction item cost, then ask for a real check from you in return, to make up for overpaying. Sellers may send the money and ship the merchandise before realizing the check didn't clear.
