Minnesota police are warning renters to watch out for rental scams on the web site craigslist.
Rochester police are investigating reports of scam artists renting out other people's homes that are for sale.
The criminals take online real estate listings and post them on craigslist as a rental property. The scammers tell the renter to send money and they'll receive a key.
Police started investigating after a homeowner reported catching a scam artist trying to rent out his three bedroom home.
Police say renters should never commit to a deal or send a deposit or rent check without meeting the landlord in person.
