A Wisconsin woman says she's about to try to become the first person with a particular disability to climb Mount Everest.
Lori Schneider of Bayfield was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis ten years ago. Since then, she's climbed six of the seven summits, which are the highest points on six different continents.
Her most recent of those was in Antarctica three months ago. She’s also doing all her training in the Bayfield area because that's what she can afford.
Lori Schneider said, "These climbs have helped me prove to myself over the years that I'm still in control. Why can't I just because I have this label attached next to my name saying my legs might not be strong enough."
Schneider trains by walking on ladders propped up on hay bales or a tree. It’s a way for her to simulate crossing crevasses and climbing ladders on Everest. Schneider plans to leave for Mount Everest on March 26. The peak of the mountain is more than 29,000 feet up.
