A sheriff says a man admitted to burglarizing two homes because of tough financial times.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department says the burglaries happened on March 18 and 19 in the Dallas area. Investigators say nearly $10,000 in items were stolen including, antiques, silverware, money, alcohol, clothes, DVD’s and jewelry.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says he believes a 31-year-old man from Dallas was gradually pawning the items for money he said he needed to provide for his family. Deputies didn't arrest the man because he was cooperative. His name hasn't been released.

The department expects prosecutors to file criminal charges against the man.
