New Neighbors: Hispanic Immigration in Trempealeau County
In the past decade, more than 3.2 million Hispanics have come to the United States, and nearly 1000 have settled in towns like Arcadia and Independence in Trempealeau County. In a county with a population of only 27, 000, this migration of new neighbors has caused division.

This story paints a picture of a town moving forward, but this is not true. There is a lot of racism and discrimination in Arcadia. The white community is afraid because people who look different from them, speak a different language, and have different customs are now their neighbors. This is nothing to be afraid of. America is a country of immigrants. We can all learn from different cultures and enrich our lives. There are a lot of negative sterotypes in Arcadia. First one: All hispanics here are illegal. Not true. Second: That all white women who date Hispanics are trash. Not true. Third: Hispanics commit all the crime. Not true Fourth: Hispanics don't want to be Americans. Not true. My boyfriend is Hispanic and I'm white and we get stared at, talked about, and disrespected. My answer to these people is this: If god didn't want interracial couples he would not have put people of all different colors on the same Earth. Get to know your Hispanic neighbor before you start hating them.

Sanctuary State. It's not racist when people are in the state enjoying great benefits at the expense of taxpayers when they are not even legal residents of the country. They come and demand, demand and demand. They don't even try to speak or learn the language or to obey the laws of the state or The USA. Those here 100 % legal and doing their part as citizens should enjoy the respect and benefits as citizens.

I work with hispanic coumunity very close. And if Ashley and Gold-n-plump hire all this hispanic it's because some of these job are not wanted by anyone else. These companies have come to rely on the good help. they get from them, interpreting for the medical and legal fiel I see all kinds of people, and belive me when I say there are more good hispanics than bad ones, but of course because of one bad apple we are all going to get blamed. One thing I want to know wasn't this country form on immigrants

Thank you so much for bringing to light the immigration issue in the Arcadia area. I live in Arcadia and my husband is from Mexico and we see A LOT of negativity toward us. We have 5 children and have had they people in the community be extremely rude and very disrespectful to us. I think the rudeness and disrespectfulness of the community starts at the top with the mayor. If the person who is supposed to work for the people, ALL PEOPLE, is racist then who are you supposed to trust. The police that work for him or the city council, who are his friends? We have thought about moving to a community where we are accepted and a community where we are proud to be part of it but with the economy the way it is at the moment it just isn't possible for us. I just wanted to say thank you! Maybe now people will open up their eyes and see we are part of the community too! We work, pay taxes, and own homes and businesses just like everybody else! Unless Ashley and Gold-n-Plump are using the FREE, FAST, and ACCURATE federal "E-VERIFY" program to verify the LEGAL STATUS of their employees, Mr. Petz lied to you on camera when he said, “We do everything we can and use all the tools that they government gives us to verify all citizenship of everyone that works here." THE GOVERNMENT "GIVES" ALL U.S. BUSINESSES THE E-VERIFY WEB-BASED PROGRAM FOR FREE AND I BET THESE ARCADIA BIG SHOOTERS DON'T USE IT! In addition, CONGRESSMAN KIND PERSNONALLY CONFIRMED TO ME THAT ASHLEY TOLD HIM THEY DON'T USE IT. Come on, ASHLEY AND GOLD-N-PLUMP, PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS: SIGN UP FOR E-VERIFY NOW!!! 99.6 percent accurate on the first go-round of your employees' names and Social Security data...anyone kicked out by the system who's REALLY LEGAL will have NO PROBLEM proving their case with real documents easily accessible to LEGAL PERSONS!! Come on, are you chicken?? PUN INTENDED!!
