A spokesman says the Social Security disability benefits backlog has been building since 2001. As we found out, it’s affecting people right here at home.

As to my earlier post...I have been supporting my mother for about 3 years now...along with my brothers. I am a single mother of two children who is going to school and working full time. I can't afford it!!! I love my mother and my brothers...but she does need dis. support. I am a specialist in job placement and there is nowhere that she can be hired!!!!!! I understand some outrage on this board as far as some scamming the system. I have seen it happen. However, as also mentioned in here by an individual we cannot judge because we are not the ones who are being denied. Our limitations are not holding us back becuase our limitations are not as great. People cannot say that our government pays to much money in disability and the families should support all of this. What if a family can't? Then they have to enter a CBRF or supportive care of some sort. That is even more costly. The reason more people are applying is because the aging population is growing..the war...etc. etc.

Wow such anger in some of these post's. One person says that disabled people shouldnt go to bars? And why not? I guess that person wants to take disabled peoples right to have a good time away. Maybe that disabled person is dying. I'd be out partying if I was terminal. Maybe overweight people shouldnt go to fast food places? Makes just as much sense to me. And the person that thinks disabled people sitting in their cars should not be parked in the disabled spot? Why not? Its there for them to use. Maybe that person just got in the car and was warming it up. Or resting. Disablity benefits do not come easy. There are a lot of safe guards in place just for that reason. You dont get far with it if your being a malingerer.

I HAVE BEEN DENIED TWICE FOR SSDI,APPEALED AND STILL WAITING.BEFORE YOU JUDGE SOMEONE WHO NEEDS SSDI, BE THANKFUL THAT YOU DO NOT NEED IT.THIS IS NOT A PAYCHECK NOR IS IT ANYTHING TO BRAG ABOUT. TO ME HAVING BABIES,DRUG ADDICTIONS, ALCOHOLIC AND THE OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES ARE NOT DISABILITIES. THE SAYING GOES YOU PLAY, YOU PAY!!!!!!! MY CONDITION IS VERY DIBILITATING. DAILY ACTIVITIES SUCH AS WALKING, SITTING , STANDING IS VERY PAINFUL. MY BONES ARE DETERIORATING BECAUSE OF MY DISEASE AND A SEVERE VITAMIN DEFIENCENCY. MY DISEASE IS VERY RARE.BEING VERY ILL IS NO FUN AND GAMES SO PLEASE THANK THE LORD EVERYDAY THAT YOU ARE NORMAL.

There seems to be more and more people trying to get disability. Some people who are in wheelchairs are working, some people who are in group homes are working. The money is running out for such programs. There is just so much the tax payers can contribute. The way it is now, I will be going to work and coming home with nothing on my pay check. My wrists hurt, my back hurts, my legs hurt, and I still have to go in to work. I see so many people who are on disability, sitting in bars having a good time, when I wouldn't go to a bar. There needs to be a Disability reform, much like the welfare reform. But, then our government geniouses would just try taking everything away from the truly disabled like they try and do every year. How can anyone stay home year after year just trying to get disability? I don't mind helping the truly disabled, but not the people I see in bars, those having baby after baby, the people I see out buying expensive toys that I pay for. It needs to stop somewhere.

So I guess that you people who have found fault or do not believe this man are perfect? Like the other poster said , do you know him ? My sister in law has fibro, No apparant disablity with her at all but she's in severe pain and she cant even tolerate being touched. You can't possibly tell how someone feels just by watching a video. There is more than one kind of arthritis and there is no rule book that says that someone cant have more than one kind of arthritis. You people should be ashamed of yourselfs. To lose ones ablity to work must be terrible enough but to have people like the one's who wrote that stuff about him has to be really hard to take.

Too many people applying for benefits. Too low a bar for getting benefits. Too many family members not sacrificing for disabled relatives and expecting taxpayers to foot the whole bill. Too many whiners and malingerers, which has been a growth industry in this nation for decades. And too many disabled ID parking tags; pretty soon, we'll need to reserve normal parking spots as they'll be outnumbered. Remember, if the disabled person is staying in the car, THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE IN THE DISABLED AREA! Just a microcosm of how much scamming goes on with disability in this country. Are they all scammers, no. But we've set the bar too low for all things disability-related, to the point where we could all probably get some kind of claim approved. Sorry for the hard truth, but it's right in front of us.

My father had arthritis so bad he couldn't use a rod and reel, but he still worked until the day he died. Ya, he had pain, but still he worked as a lot of others do. I see he still has internet service - must not be cutting back too much.

I dont understand how anyone can say that this man can do anything like, hunting, fishing, etc....Do you know this person? Do you know what he is actually going through? If you dont then dont say anthing. There might be a good chance that he is missing out on the things that he enjoys doing. For one thing working. I think he said he rather be working then doing what he is doing, but it is impossible. So dont judge people before you know whats going on.

I have had both hips replaced, ankle fussion and now looking at replacing both ankle joints. I still work and will untill as long as possible, maybe the backlog is because to many people try to get assistance to soon.

My mom has been disabled since mid 2004. She too got the 3 denials and just finally had her hearing in EC yesterday for which she was approved. I will tell you that after 3 and a half years of waiting and worrying it was a deeply emotional verdict!

My mother has the same issue. Her condition has got worse in the past 2 years and each time she reapplies.....all times she has been denied!!! She has my 2 young brothers to care for and she is alone. There is no help for her we are told because she is not "old" enough for emergency help..She was always a stay at home mother and went she went back to work she was severly injured. It has only gotten worse since then!! I have been trying to support her and my own family and I cannot do it much longer I am falling into extreme debt myself because of it!!!
