The State Department wanted to remind people of the June first passport deadline, so the declared Saturday Passport Day.
After June 1, everyone leaving or entering the country must have a passport, even when traveling to Canada and Mexico.
The Chippewa County Clerk's office was busy and open for business all day Saturday helping people fill out the forms to apply for passports.
And County Clerk Kathy Bernier says it's important to have all the necessary paperwork ready when applying for your passport.
"They need a certified birth certificate, they need a driver's license, they also need a separate check for our institution, and you need a check for $75 written to the U.S. Department of State and $25 for our portion," Bernier says.
That's $100 total. Bernier says you also need to have passport pictures as well. Adult passports are good for 10 years and passports for children under 16 are good for five years.
