Semi Wheel Flies Off and Hits Car on Interstate

The wheel of a semi flew off on the Interstate Thursday night and did quite a bit of damage. It happened near Foster, south of Eau Claire after 7p.m. The state patrol says the wheel of the semi in the eastbound lanes of I-94 flew off and hit a car in the westbound lane.

Amazingly, no one was hurt, even though the wheel smashed the hood. The wheel also started a grass fire in the median. The state patrol says it had to shut down one lane while the firefighters put out the fire. The driver says after it happened she was shaking for ten minutes.

"We are very blessed it hit right in the front of the car instead of the driver's side of the door. It stayed toward the ground instead of coming up into the glass. We all had our seatbelts on, airbags deployed immediately, we're all good. Not a bump, bruise or scratch," says Julie Hauger.

Hauger says people were very helpful after they saw the crash and stopped to see if they were hurt.
