Two law enforcement agencies are looking for donations to help out a newly formed Honor Guard Team.
The Chippewa Falls Police Department and Chippewa County Sheriff's Department decided to form the Honor Guard in June 2008, five months after Deputy Jason Zunker was killed in the line of duty. At that time, there wasn't any formal protocol for an actual Honor Guard Team.
The team has eight members who will serve at memorials, funerals, parades, and other community events. The Honor Guard needs to raise about $6,500 to outfit each member and to purchase flags, guidons, and flag stands.
Chief Wayne Nehring said, "The Honor Guard being a great idea, we don't think should be funded by taxpayer dollars. So we're actually asking for tax donations and community support for this."
If you'd like to donate, you can contact the Chippewa Falls Police at 715-723-4424 or Chippewa County Sheriff's Department at 715-726-7701.
