Barron County is creating a large animal disaster response team to help rescue animals from danger.
On Friday, the response team members met in Dallas, WI to start their training by learning to tie knots that can help them pull large animals like horses out of ditches or icy water.
Code 3 Associates, a national non-profit, is training the team on animal behavior, first aid and even how to get animals out of a trailer involved in a crash. Code 3 says when there's an emergency, people need to have training, so they don't get hurt.
Jim Boller, Executive Director, Code 3 Associates, says, "we all think we know how our dogs, cats or horses will react, but when you put them in a stressful situation they all react differently."
The Barron County Humane Association is sponsoring the training. On Saturday the team will work with horses as they deal with a crash scenario.
