Deputies say an Eau Claire County man came home to a bear in his house.
Here's a bit of the 911 call:
Jim Hoover: I got a bear in my basement.
Dispatcher: A what?
Jim: Yeah, you heard me.
Dispatcher: No I didn't. A girl or a bear?
Jim: No, a bear.
Dispatcher: A bear?
Jim: Yeah.
Sheriff's Department deputies and a DNR warden went to a home in the town of Lincoln north of Fall Creek around 1 a.m. Monday.
James Hoover says he came home to find the house in disarray with food and other items strewn about the rooms.
He says he heard noises, thought he had a burglar in the house and then found a black bear yearling in his basement.
The Sheriff's Department says before the bear could be tranquilized, it left the house through an open door and wandered off.
It was estimated to be about 100 pounds.
Game Warden Ken Thompson told us the bear got into the house by pushing on the glass part of a door. The bear didn't break the glass, but broke the seal, pushed aside the glass and got inside. Thompson thinks he got stuck inside after that.
