A Jackson County Sheriff's Sergeant accused of pepper-spraying parade goers over Fourth of July in Hixton will not face criminal charges. He did lose some pay, though.
>
The Sheriff's Department suspended Sergeant Mike Haldeman for six days, unpaid. He was disciplined after Hixton families filed a complaint with the Sheriff's Department.
>
They say Haldeman pepper sprayed four children and two adults riding on a float during the parade, after the kids squirted him with water.
>
The suspension could cost Haldeman about $1,200 in pay and benefits, which La Crosse County District Attorney Scott Horne says is punishment enough.
