Jackson County Sheriff's Sergeant Won't Face Criminal Charges
Sergeant Mike Haldeman pepper sprayed four children and two adults at a Fourth of July parade in Hixton and will not face criminal charges.

A Jackson County Sheriff's Sergeant accused of pepper-spraying parade goers over Fourth of July in Hixton will not face criminal charges. He did lose some pay, though.

The Sheriff's Department suspended Sergeant Mike Haldeman for six days, unpaid. He was disciplined after Hixton families filed a complaint with the Sheriff's Department.

They say Haldeman pepper sprayed four children and two adults riding on a float during the parade, after the kids squirted him with water.

The suspension could cost Haldeman about $1,200 in pay and benefits, which La Crosse County District Attorney Scott Horne says is punishment enough.
