Girls on the Run 5K Run/Walk - Saturday, May 9th at Boyd Park in Eau Claire
Start your Mother's Day weekend off right with this community fun run/walk at Boyd Park. Our 5K course will be out and back from the park along the beautiful Eau Claire/Chippewa River Valley trail. If you are looking for a great way to start off your Mother's Day weekend, you may want to check out the Girls on the Run 5K Run/Walk at Eau Claire's Boyd Park this Saturday, May 9th. The 5K course will take place along the beautiful Eau Claire/Chippewa River Valley Trail.
Elementary students at Locust Lane school have been training for this Saturday's event. Led by their coach Sara Denure, these girls have been running around Eau Claire, going door-to-door, bearing gifts and spreading the word, informing the community about their goals. The volunteers serve as role models to the girls through coaching the 12-week, 24 lesson curricula. The non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
Sara Denure/Girls on the Run Coach: "Girls on the Run, we work on self-esteem, self-concept, we work on physical fitness for the girls and our long term goal is to complete a 5K which will be happening on May 9th at Boyd Park at 10 am. All proceeds go to Girls on the Run for Eau Claire County, the money goes to buy the supplies needed for the curriculum and the projects the girls do throughout the season."
Alexa Shelton/Locust Lane 5th Grader: "I think it's a good idea so we get people interested in what we do. I hope a lot of people come out, I'm excited because we have all worked up for this, and we have all tried our best."
Race-day check-in for those pre-registered and for those who still need to register will start at 8:30 a.m. in the Boyd Park shelter. The race starts at 10 a.m. at Boyd Park, which is on the 1200 block of Main Street in Eau Claire. There is ample parking along the park’s many side streets.
Fees:
Adults - $25 race day.
Youth (12 & under) - $15 race day
All 5K runners and walkers will receive:
- 5K t-shirt (guaranteed for pre-registrants only)
- Free refreshments and entertainment
- Race goodie bag
- Chance to win raffle prizes
- The joy of joining the 60 girls from our spring Girls on the Run programs as they complete their first community 5K!
We welcome runners and walkers of every age and ability to join us in this festive event for a great cause! All proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of Eau Claire County, which provides afterschool wellness programs for girls.
