The Eau Claire County Courthouse opened for regular business Thursday morning after having been closed for nearly two days following a major electrical transformer fire, which knocked out power, and send employees and others outside Wednesday at noon..
The Eau Claire Fire Department says they've finished their investigation of the fire, and the transformer overload is to blame.
Eau Claire County Administrator Tom McCarty said a transformer overheated and started the fire that created all this smoke.
It also caused a power outage to the whole building.
McCarty says the damage appears to only be in the transformer room in the basement. He says Xcel energy will try to figure out exactly what happened and repair crews replaced the damaged transformer. Xcel apparently owns the transformers.
