A caboose is typically found at the end of a freight train. But on Monday, a caboose came through town behind a big rig!
The Stone Lake Area Historical Society plans to restore the 1913 Soo Line caboose, but it had to get it from Green Bay to Sawyer County.
So, instead of riding the rails, it rode Highways 29 and 53 through the Chippewa Valley, making a quick stop in Tilden.
The caboose came from the National Railroad Museum and is headed to Stone Lake’s new depot and museum.
On Monday, the semi driver – Duane Burmania -- who made it happen said it was a fun job.
"It's going to take a little fixing, a little painting and it's going to be looking like brand new they say. They showed me a picture of what it's going to look like later and it's going to be all painted up pretty nice,” Burmania said.
Volunteers will start restoring the caboose as soon as it gets set on the rails in front of the depot in Stone Lake.
