Ten dogs that were rescued from a shelter that deputies say kept the animals in poor conditions, are now at the Eau Claire County Humane Association.
The small-breed dogs arrived on Sunday from the Dane County Humane Society. They were part of more than 300 dogs the Richland County Sheriff's Department rescued from the Thyme and Sage Ranch in Cazenovia.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says many of the dogs had severely matted fur, skin infections, and open wounds. Executive Director of the Humane Association, Lauren Evans says the dogs aren't ready for adoption yet, but should be in about a week or two.
Lauren Evans said, "They're all doing pretty well considering what they've been through. Some issues with mange, skin conditions, things like that. But definitely something that's very treatable."
Evans says the shelter is accepting donations to help out with the expense of the dogs.
