Feingold on Al-Qaeda
Feingold says war on terror demands broader foreign-policy outlook
|
|
Russ Feingold says the way to beat al-Qaeda is to focus on where it operates -- and that does not include Iraq.
>
Wisconsin's Democratic senator says the U.S. is overlooking scores of countries that pose a terror threat. He says it's too simplistic to concentrate on only a few countries.
>
He says Africa is becoming a haven for terrorist operatives. So are countries like Indonesia.
>
President Bush is visiting Indonesia, which is the world's most populous Muslim nation. Feingold says he's glad about that. He calls it one of the most critical countries in the fight against al-Qaeda -- but there's almost no discussion about it.
>
Feingold's comments came yesterday in a lecture at the Madison Civics Club.
>
He also thinks the U-S government should be concentrating on real problems and cutting down on petty infighting and turf protecting.
