Often, people don't appreciate something til it is gone. Try selling a house in a town that doesn't have a grocery store. Try keeping senior apts occupied when there is no place to buy groceries and many of those people no longer drive. The loss of the grocery store will affect most of the Fairchild residents....in ways they may not have even realized!
Jeremy, I hope you went and expressed your ideas at the meeting. Maybe you would like to start up a bus service to take the elderly people shopping once a week. To some, it's not the price that matters - it's the convenience. The store needs support from the community. Instead of wishing it to close, you should put some of that effort into figuring out how to make it better and stay open.
Jeremy doesn't know what he is talking about, The prices are pretty comparable and the quality is good. More of a selection or variety is a definate. However with gas prices rising. It's comparable as by the time you spend gas to goto Eau Claire. You basically spent the same. And it's history. You want to save it. The problem is the community doesn't care about it's own town and they should and should take initiative to save it, it's well worth it in the long run. When you goto Eau Claire you don't get the same customer service as you do in a small town. I know them all at fairchild and none in Eau Claire....so lets save it, as it's well worh it.
i live in Fairchild and don't shop at the store unless i really have to. The prices here are way to high compared to say Osseo and really high to prices in Eau Claire. it might be a good thing if the store closes, even if for a while to change the layout and try to get some more choices to offer. the store here is trying to be a one stop shop for everything from groceries to a clothing store to a hardware store. again i say let the store close. maybe just maybe it might come out better in the long run. i know that it would be better for the coop as a whole.
