It was a horrendous accident and my heart goes out to the family members of the two who were killed. However, the driver fell asleep and it was an accident. She wasn't driving impaired nor did she set out to kill anyone, yet she is being treated more harshly than those who do. She should have lied and told the old "deer or dog ran out in front of me and I lost control" excuse. I work in an ER and for those who think they could never fall asleep behind the wheel, so have the multitudes of those who I've treated. It was an accident! Not a murder. I'm sure living with the knowledge that you killed someone is punishment enough. What hicky town would have the audacity to call it homicide?

It's negligent to stay awake for 19 hours and get behind the wheel. If you do so and kill someone, that's called negligent homicide. The charges are appropriate.

So you people think it's ok to fall asleep at the wheel...You have some issues. What if it was your son in that accident??? Then see what you think should happen to her. And yes, i agree drunk drivers shouldn't get that many chances, but she took 2 lives. Drinking or not she needs to be charged.

I just don't understand, either. Drunk drivers get 12 chances to drive drunk without a valid license, people who nod off (which is entirely possible for ANYONE to do) get thrown in the dungeon to rot. Grow cannabis, get 20 years in prison; rape a child and you get probation. Man beats up girlfriend, calls cops, girlfriend gets arrested, man goes back to bar... Stuff like this happens EVERY DAY, and we let it. Americans were never meant to be afraid of our government...

I agree with Tim. So this woman gets 25 years for falling asleep (possibly), yet drunk drivers get 7,8, 9 times and get slaps on the wrist each time. Man this state is screwed up!

I do not agree with this at all. She should not be charged. IF she would have been drinking, then she should be convicted. But not for falling asleep. There's a lot of people who black out during accidents, she probably doesn't know what happened for sure. It's a bit ridiculous.

I am terribly sorry for the families of the victims. My heart hurts for you. But my heart also goes out to the woman and her family too. I don't agree with a possible 20 year prison term. The woman is a 65 years old.Make her liable ,sure, but homicide and 25 years? Thats just outrageous.

She should have said she had been drinking while driving. Judging by how previous DUI convicted drivers are treated, she would have been free and clear by now.
