Firefighters from three departments needed five and a half hours to put out a house fire on Tuesday.
The Black River Falls Fire Department responded to East 2nd Street in the Town of Brockway just south of Black River Falls around 3 p.m. Firefighters found smoke coming from the roof and called the Merrillan and Hixton fire departments for more help. It took 24 firefighters to fight the fire, but they say the building is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
