Sheriff's deputies are called to a potentially explosive situation after workers find an old mortar shell.
It happened in Barron County Wednesday night. Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says a crew digging a ditch found the shell. He says it appears it has been there for some time. The Marathon County Bomb Squad was called in to take the shell away and make sure no one got hurt.
Fitzgerald says he doesn't know how it ended up on the side of the road.
