On Tuesday, you heard the story of a man who fell six stories washing windows in downtown Eau Claire, but what you didn't hear was that on the same night a man in Chippewa Falls fell off a cliff, but wasn't hurt.
Police say Kevin Stevens of Chippewa Falls was walking on a cliff in Irvine Park when he fell about 30 feet off of it.
Lt. John Liddell of the Chippewa Falls Police Department says his department warns while this case ended up O.K. it's still a dangerous situation. Lt. Liddell says, "It's not often but we have seen this before."
Police showed up to Irvine Park a little before seven on Tuesday night after a 911 caller said a man fell from the cliffs.
"He said he was walking around the top and had slipped and fallen." Liddell says.
Bill Faherty is the Chippewa Falls Parks and Rec. Director.
He says there are a lot of places to explore, some are dangerous, and the signs are there for a reason
Faherty says, "We cannot put warning signs up everywhere and on different situations, we have 300 acres."
He showed us where the city has two fences up to keep people off of the cliffs but, when we got there, he was surprised to find that sections of both fences were torn down, and he warns people shouldn't take these paths. "If you start walking in the park where there is no trail, then they're on their own." He says.
His employees are getting to work to make some quick repairs to the broken fences to try and prevent any more falls.
Faherty says this afternoon they put up caution tape to cover the area and will repair it tomorrow.
The man who fell this week, didn't want to go on camera, but says he admits he made a mistake by walking near the edge of the cliff. He says people should be careful and hike with a friend.
