A state commission is considering a plan that would eliminate college tuition for students who pledge to live and work in Wisconsin for at least ten years after graduation.

The commission will meet in Madison on Tuesday to discuss the plan.

Supporters say the idea will attract companies to the state because they'll have access to a large work force. The state would recoup its investment from the increase in income taxes and sales taxes.

According to the terms of the plan, grads who leave the state before their ten years are up will have to pay back their tuition costs.

Democratic state Senator Russ Decker of Schofield serves on the commission. He says it's an idea worth considering but it has to be practical as well.

Republican Assemblywoman Sue Jeskewitz of Menomonee Falls says the concept is great -- but she says it's a little scary too since there's no guarantee that the actual payback will be as much as people expect.
