the Hideout was truly a fabulous place. I had the honors of working there as head chef for almost 16 years. I was lucky to be apart of its growth. I have missed the place since my leaving in 1999. My best wishes for Mr. Brown. It is ashame to see all of our hard work lost this way.
Goes on the auction block soon...Bank reportedly will not accept less than $2.6 million.
I heard he tried to sell it off a few years back without luck, so then he mortgaged it to the teeth and now it's being foreclosed on by the bank. I live near there and I've been seeing the owner stripping the place out.
we visited last year for the first time. we were very impressed by the way they were able to capture history. we feel lucky to have seen this. a shame that it closed.
Its ashame.. With the movie Public Enemies it might have help with tourisum, who knows with the econime. I wish I could have had a visit. I am sure if things keep going the way they are now, we might have more hide aways built with large gangster groups. Who knows.
When we went up there a couple times, when on the tour people would ask about the owners and we were told constantly it is now owned by a corporation, and they are now in charge. Obviously corporations are cutting back and this is one of the trims.
In the past they had been my customer. The owner was nice but had been behind the eight ball moneywise for years. It's almost impossible to make a place like that go unless there is no mortgage and you have the cash to pay for your advertising and opening inventory at the beginning of the season. If you don't have the cash you work long hours and don't have a prayer. Possibly the previous comments were made by people that would like to put out their money and time to save the place.
Maybe they just aren't making any money with the added restaurant section. It'd be nice if they would just forget about that part and let the actual historical part remain open for all to see! It is an interesting part of history. What a shame.
Why not put it for sale then if you don't want to open it, too sad
So sad! That is a part of history! I suppose now they just plan on boarding up the windows and letting the place fall to pieces? What a shame!
