Many people are traveling this holiday weekend, and taking their prescription medications with them.

But, pharmacists say some of those people are using holiday travel as an excuse to get drugs they plan to sell or use themselves.

Police officers say prescription drug fraud is hard to handle, since the drugs are legal and have a legitimate medical use.

The Eau Claire Police Department says prescription fraud is a growing problem in Eau Claire.

"Our investigators are telling us that there's actually been a pretty dramatic increase in the numbers of cases of prescription fraud going on in the Eau Claire, Chippewa Valley area, the wider area, to the point that there's been deaths associated to overdoses of prescription medication," said Eau Claire Public Safety Officer Jack Corey.

Officer Corey says some drugs are more available in our area.

He says Oxycontin and Methadone are the most common, and problematic right now.
